Dora's Backgrounds

Dora was kind enough to let me post her tutorials here.  All these tutorials make a seamless background and if you see a seam here it is due to the way I cropped the pic.  I hope you have fun playing with them :)

Here is a background that I created and thought I would write down how I did it so I don't have to try and remember it.
For this one I used Harms Tile and PSP6.  The link for Harms Tile is:

1.  Resize picture to the height of 300 in PSP.  Save on the desktop as a jpg.

2.  Open Harms Tile.  I used all the default settings below.  Open the image you just saved.  You will make all the changes to the picture using the list on the botom. (filters and distortions)
   a.  Click filter/edge emboss more; click apply 1 time on top.
The rest of the moves are the distortions:
   b.  Click distortions/stretch blur with self; click apply 1 time.
   c.  Click sine wave u/d; click apply 1 time.
   d.  Click twist; click apply 1 time.
   e.  Click sine wave both; click apply 1 time.
   f.  Click Harm Swizzle; click apply 1 time.
   g.  Click stretch blur with self; click apply 1 time.
   h.  Click color noise and then apply 1 time.
Click file/save as and save this to your desktop.  You can now close the program.

Now open PSP and open the jpg that you just made and saved to the desktop.  Resize to 1024x300;  click image/plugins/FMTiletools/seamless tile; make sure the vertical box is checked and click okay.  Apply your texture that you like and your background is made!!
     Hope this is understandable.  Enjoy!

Here is another background that I can't figure out a name for so maybe somebody can come up with a good name for me.  Again, this background, I used the Distort filters t I also use the Simple Filters and Video Rave-Streamers.  The Simple Filters are here:
www.btinternet.com/~cateran/simple/   and the Video Rave here: http://perso.club-internet.fr/gpl/html/harry_the_raver.html .  Now on with the tut!!!

1.  Pick out your graphic and hit shift\d to copy then close the original.  Resize the pic to the height of 300px.

2.  Go to image\plugins\video rave\streamers.  Play aroung with the top lever to get the stripe pattern you want and then click okay.

3.  Go to image\plugins\distort\shear and make the design you want.  Just move the black center line from side to side in different places to get the effect that you want then click okay.  If you don't like what appears, go into the plugin again and play some more until you are happy with the results.

4.  Go to image\plugins\simple\diamonds and then click okay.

5.  Go to image\plugins\simple\4 Way Average.

Now you have the pattern for your background so now save this as a .psd to use as a texture.

6.  Open a new image 1024x300, transparant and flood fill with your pattern.  (If you want a lighter background, add another layer and floodfill with a light color from the graphic.  Go into the layer pallet and make the background layer active and decrease the color of the top layer.  When you are happy with the lighter color, go to layers\merge\merge all(flatten).
Now go to image\plugins\FM Tile Tools\seamless tile; click the vertical and then click okay.

7.  Now go to image\plugins\Texture\Texturizer and find the pattern image you saved.  I usually put the relief somewhere between 15 & 25 and click okay.  Just use your own judgement on how much texture you want.
Okay!!!!!!!!  That is it!!!!!  See how easy it is?  Just save as a jpg. and make your stationery.  Have fun!!

This is another accident background that I did and thought I would post as some have asked me for it.  There is only one filter I used and I can not find it on the web again but in the plugins menu it just says Distort.

1.  Open the image you want to use, hit Shift+D and make 2 copies.  Close the original and minimize one image.   Resize the remaining image to a height of 300px.
2.  Go to image/blur/Gaussian Blur and set at about 10 and click okay.
3.  Now comes the fun part: go to image/plugins/Distort/Shear.  Move the line in the center to really scramble up the image and click okay.  If it needs more distortion, repeat this step.
4.  Now go to image/plugins/Distort/Ripple and move the lever all the way to the right.  You might want to play with this to get the effect that you want then hit ok.
5.  Open an image 1024x300 and flood fill with your image you just worked with.
6.  Save the 1024x300 image on the desktop in .psd format.  Go to image/plugins/texture/texturizer and find the image you just saved to the desktop.  The only thing I change is the relief which I set between 15 and 25.  This background was set at 25.  Save this image as your new background.

The filter makes a seamless background without having to use the FM Tile Tool.  Hope this isn't too confusing.

Here is another background accident!  LOL  You will need 3 filters for this one.  You should already have FM Tiletools and Texturizer, so here is the link for the 3rd one, Jama 108:

1.  Open the image you want to use for your stat; make a duplicate by hitting Ctrl+D;  minimize the original; click image\plugins\Redfield 33; choose frontbricks in the selection and click okay.
2.  Using the selection tool, select just the part of the image that has color, click image\crop to selection.
3.  Click file\save as and save the new selection on your desktop as a .psd file.
4.  Resize the image to 1024x300; click image\fm tiletools\seamless tile and make sure that the vertical is checked and click okay.
5.  Click image\edge\enhance.
6.  Click image\plugins\Texturizer\Load texture and select the saved image on your desktop; I set the relief at 20 and click okay.
You now have your background and you save as a .jpg.
Enjoy!!

Another background tutorial if anybody is interested.  On this one I just used EyeCandy 3.01 and the Texturizer.

1.  Choose the graphic to use for your stat; Shift+D to copy; close the original and resize the copy until you have it 300 height (very important).
2.  Shift+D to copy again and only work on 1 copy.  Be sure to choose the foreground and background colors.
3.  Click image/blur/Gaussian Blur/15.00 (this is the setting I used) and click okay.
4.  Click image/plugins/EyeCandy/Swirl; mine was set to these settings: Whirlpool: 100px; Smear Length: 15; Twist: 45; Streak: 50 and both the Wrap & Smooth were selected; now click the check in right top corner.
5.  Now go to image/plugins/FM Tile Tools/Seamless Tile and just click apply.
6.  Again, click image/plugins/FM Tile Tools/Seamless Tile and make sure you put a check in vertical and click apply.
7.  Next, open a new image 1024x300; flood fill with this pattern; add a new layer and flood that layer with the light color you chose from the graphic; go to the layer palette and choose the first layer and change the 2nd layer transparency to about 50 (or a color you like the background to be);  click layers/merge/merge all flattened; go to image/plugins/FM Tile Tools/Seamless Tiles and make sure Vertical is checked again and click apply.
8.  Click the floodfill image (should be image 1) and Save As a .psd file on your desktop.  You can now close this image.
9.  Click image/plugins/Texture/Texturizer/Load Texture from the dropdown menu and select the image you saved on your desktop; I left the Scale alone and just moved the Relief up to about 25 and clicked apply.  You can use your own preference here on how much texture you want the background to be.
10.  Sign your background and you are all through!!!!
Hope this tut makes sense to you.  LOL  Enjoy!
